Common Application Methods: Can be applied neat (with no dilution) when used topically. Apply directly on area of concern or to reflex points.

Diffuse, or inhale the aroma directly.

Take in capsules.

Properties: Antidepressant, antiseptic, antitumor, aphrodisiac, astringent, calming, sedative, and tonic.

Historical Uses: Sandalwood was traditionally used as an incense during ritual work for enhancing meditation. The Egyptians also used sandalwood for embalming.

French Medicinal Uses: Bronchitis (chronic), diarrhea (obstinate), hemorrhoids, impotence.

Other Possible Uses: Sandalwood is very similar to frankincense in action. It may support the cardiovascular system and relieve symptoms associated with lumbago and the sciatic nerves. It may also be beneficial for acne, regenerating bone cartilage, catarrh, circulation (similar in action to frankincense), coughs, cystitis, depression, hiccups, lymphatic system, menstrual problems, nerves (similar in action to frankincense), nervous tension, increasing oxygen around the pineal and pituitary glands, skin infection and regeneration, and tuberculosis.

Aromatic Influence: Calms, harmonizes, and balances the emotions. It may help enhance meditation.

Oral Use As Dietary Supplement: Sandalwood oil in general is approved by the FDA (21CFR172.510) for use as a Food Additive (FA) and Flavoring Agent (FL). Dilute one drop oil in 1 tsp. honey or in 4 oz. of beverage (i.e. soy/rice milk). Not for children under 6 years old; use with caution and in greater dilution for children 6 years old and over.
