Common Primary Uses: Cooking, Indigestion

Common Application Methods: Can be applied neat (with no dilution), or dilute 1:1 (1 drop essential oil to 1 drop carrier oil) for children and for those with sensitive skin when used topically. Use with caution during pregnancy. Avoid use on babies. Apply directly on the area of concern or to reflex points.

Diffuse, or inhale the aroma directly.

Take in capsules or in a beverage. Use as a flavoring in cooking.

Properties: Antibacterial, anticatarrhal, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antispasmodic, hormone-like, insecticidal, and stimulant.

Historical Uses: Spearmint has been used to relieve hiccough, colic, nausea, indigestion, flatulence, headaches, sores, and scabs.

French Medicinal Uses: Bronchitis, candida, cystitis, hypertension.

Other Possible Uses: Spearmint oil may help balance and increase metabolism, which may help burn up fats and toxins in the body. It may aid the glandular, nervous, and respiratory systems. It may also help with acne, appetite (stimulates), bad breath, balance, childbirth (promotes easier labor), constipation, depression, diarrhea, digestion, dry skin, eczema, fevers, headaches, intestines (soothes), kidney stones, menstruation (slow, heavy periods), migraines, nausea, sore gums, stomach (relaxes muscles), urine retention, vaginitis, weight (reduces), and bring about a feeling of well-being.

Aromatic Influence: Its hormone-like activity may help open and release emotional blocks to bring about a feeling of balance. It acts as an antidepressant by relieving mental strain and fatigue, and by lifting one’s spirits.

Oral Use As Dietary Supplement: Generally regarded as safe (GRAS) for human consumption by the FDA. Dilute one drop oil in 1 tsp. honey or in 4 oz. of beverage (i.e. soy/rice milk). Not for children under 6 years old; use with caution and in greater dilution for children 6 years old and over.
